name Longonot is derived from the Maasai word Oloonong’ot meaning mountains of
many spurs or steep ridges. Longonot park covers 52 square km most of it being
occupied by Mt. Longonot – a young volcano rising to 2,776 metres above sea
level. The sides of the mountain have beautiful V-shaped valleys and

nature of the terrain Mount Longonot has no roads and visitors hike to
the top and rim of the crater.

past towering vulture - inhabited cliffs, down a dry riverbed to the boiling
sulphurous springs, hike up Mt. Longonot to the crater arriving in Nairobi by
Nairobi city driving westwards stopping at the viewpoint on the Great Rift
Valley to view the Loita plains and the sparkling Lake Naivasha in the
thousands of feet below. Proceed to Lake Naivasha (the highest lake in the
Great Rift Valley).
